The First Day of School
On January 1, 2019, I visited with Caroline Ellis, Elizabeth’s kindergarten and first grade teacher. It has been more than 13 years since Elizabeth was in Mrs. Ellis’ classroom. Mrs. Ellis kept this little letter from Elizabeth all these years. She wanted me to have it. What a treasure I received from her. This is the first time I have seen the letter. Her poem and the penmanship were superb for a 6 year old child. I’m guessing that she had given this to Mrs. Ellis when she was coming into her second grade classroom with a new teacher, Mrs. Jacob. -Seong Brown

Against the Grain
Pascale was the spoiled child of the orphanage. Born free of disease and fairly healthy as far as the brothers of the community could tell, he was considered lucky among the other children with cerebral palsy and AIDS. Not to mention, his adorable round cheeks and pure gleaming eyes bought him special care and attention from many if not all of the volunteers. However, Pascale’s story is far from fortunate.
